Windows 11 vs Windows 10

We primarily install Windows 11 (released October 2021, current version as of 2025) as it offers better security features, improved performance on modern hardware, and extended support until October 2031. Windows 10 support ends in October 2025, making it unsuitable for long-term use. However, if your computer doesn’t meet Windows 11 hardware requirements (TPM 2.0, UEFI firmware, compatible CPU), we can install Windows 10 or discuss hardware upgrade options.

Same-Day Service Available: Clean Windows installations (without data migration) can be completed same-day in 2-4 hours at our London locations. Services involving data transfer, application setup, or complex configurations will be quoted individually and may require 1-2 working days. Contact us to arrange same-day service.

How We Work – Your Installation Process:

Before starting any work, we’ll discuss your requirements to determine the best approach for your situation. We offer two service levels depending on your needs:

Option 1: Clean Windows Installation Only – £90

Perfect if you want a fresh system without data transfer or extensive setup. Includes:

  • Fresh Windows 11 (or Windows 10) installation with latest updates
  • All essential hardware drivers properly installed (graphics, audio, network, Wi-Fi, touchpad, Bluetooth)
  • Windows activation using your existing genuine licence key
  • System verification and stability testing
  • Basic browser installation (Chrome/Edge/Firefox)

Note: If you don’t have a valid Windows 11 licence, we can purchase one for you at an additional cost of £20.

Option 2: Complete Setup with Data Migration – From £90 + £85/hour

For customers who need data transferred from their old drive and applications configured. Additional work typically costs £80-£250 depending on complexity (usually 1-3 hours). This can include:

  • Everything from Option 1, plus:
  • Data backup and migration from old drive or system
  • Application installation and configuration (Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, Slack, Discord, Zoom, Teams, Notion, Obsidian, VSCode, etc.)
  • Email client setup and account configuration (Outlook, Thunderbird, webmail)
  • Cloud storage configuration (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud)
  • Development environment setup (Git, Docker, Node.js, Python, WSL2, terminal configurations)
  • System optimisation: startup applications management, notification settings, privacy configurations
  • Performance tuning: disabling unnecessary services, optimising boot speed, reducing resource usage
  • AI tools setup: Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT (desktop app + custom instructions), Claude (desktop + Claude Code), Gemini, Cursor IDE, GitHub Copilot, MCP server integrations, AI agents and workflows
  • Network configuration, VPN setup, printer installation

Note: We’ll provide a quote before starting work based on your specific requirements. Pricing does not include paid software licences or subscription fees – you’ll need to provide your own licence keys or subscription credentials.

Important: Data Loss Warning
Fresh Windows installation on the same storage drive erases everything permanently without trace. All your documents, photos, applications, settings, and personal files will be completely removed.

Before proceeding, you must either:

  • Request data migration: Tell us if you want your files transferred to the new Windows installation (additional cost and process explained in Option 2 above)
  • Ensure you have backups: Verify your important data is safely backed up on a different drive, external storage, or cloud service (OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud, etc.)

If your system currently doesn’t work but your data is the priority: Inform us before booking. We’ll first check if your data is still accessible and can be recovered before proceeding with Windows installation. Data recovery is charged separately depending on the drive condition.

Why Windows Slows Down Over Time: Windows performance naturally degrades with prolonged use. Frequent software installations/uninstallations, improper shutdowns, accumulated temporary files, fragmented drives, and registry bloat all contribute to slowdowns. Microsoft designs Windows to benefit from periodic fresh installations (every 12-24 months) to maintain optimal speed. If your computer is 2+ years old without a fresh install, you’ll likely notice significant improvement.

Hardware Compatibility & Upgrades: Before booking, we can verify if your computer meets Windows 11 requirements or identify hardware bottlenecks (insufficient RAM, failing storage drive, outdated CPU). This ensures you get the best performance from your new installation. If hardware upgrades are needed (SSD upgrade, RAM increase), we’ll provide a comprehensive quote including parts and labour.

Important: Not All Problems Are Software-Related
Before proceeding with Windows installation, we always perform preliminary diagnostics to rule out hardware issues. Symptoms like screen artifacts, sudden shutdowns, system freezing, Blue Screen errors, or boot failures can indicate hardware problems rather than software corruption.

Common hardware issues that mimic software problems:

  • Failing storage drive (SSD/HDD/NVMe): Can cause boot failures, system freezing, file corruption, and Blue Screen errors
  • Overheating issues: CPU or GPU overheating can cause sudden shutdowns, system instability, and performance throttling
  • RAM problems: Faulty memory modules cause random crashes, Blue Screens, and application errors
  • Battery issues: Degraded laptop batteries can cause unexpected shutdowns and power-related instability
  • GPU problems: Graphics card issues cause screen artifacts, display glitches, and system crashes
  • Power supply issues: Insufficient or failing power delivery causes instability and unexpected shutdowns

If we identify hardware problems during diagnostics, we’ll inform you before proceeding. Installing Windows on failing hardware won’t resolve the underlying issue and may waste your time and money. We’ll provide recommendations and quotes for any necessary hardware repairs or replacements.

What We Need From You (for Option 1 – Clean Install):

  • Your computer (most modern computers have Windows licence embedded in BIOS/UEFI firmware – we’ll retrieve it automatically)
  • Confirmation that important files are backed up or that you’re comfortable with a clean slate

Post-Installation Support: After installation, we provide basic guidance on Windows 11 features and settings. If you encounter issues within 3 days related to the installation itself (not new software you installed), contact us for complimentary support. Extended support packages are available for business clients.

Understanding Fresh Installation vs System Repair:
A fresh installation means your computer returns to factory-like state – Windows is installed cleanly on a formatted drive. This resolves most software issues but removes all applications, settings, and files. Alternatively, system repair attempts to fix Windows corruption without losing your files, suitable for minor issues like update failures or corrupted system files. However, success isn’t guaranteed for severely damaged systems, and fresh installation is often the more reliable solution for persistent problems.

Q: Will I lose my files with a clean Windows installation?
A: Yes, a fresh installation erases everything on your primary drive. This is why we offer Option 2 service which includes data backup and migration. If you have important files, photos, or documents, either back them up yourself beforehand or let us handle it as part of the complete setup service.

Q: How long does the installation take?
A: Option 1 (clean install only) takes 2-4 hours and can be completed same-day. Option 2 (with data migration and app setup) typically takes 4-8 hours depending on the amount of data and number of applications, often requiring 1-2 working days to complete properly.

Q: Can I keep my Windows 10?
A: Yes, but we don’t recommend it. Windows 10 support ends in October 2025, meaning no more security updates. This leaves your computer vulnerable to new threats. If your hardware doesn’t support Windows 11, we can discuss either Windows 10 installation (short-term solution) or hardware upgrades to support Windows 11.

Q: Do I need to bring my Windows licence key?
A: No, most modern computers (manufactured from 2016 onwards) have the Windows licence embedded directly in the BIOS/UEFI firmware. We retrieve it automatically during installation. Physical stickers and email licence keys are rarely used anymore. If you have an older computer or custom-built PC without an embedded licence, we can purchase a genuine Windows 11 licence for you at an additional cost of £20.

Q: What’s included in the £90 base price?
A: The £90 base price includes: fresh Windows installation, all hardware drivers, system updates, Windows activation (using your existing key), basic browser installation, and stability testing. It does NOT include data migration, application installation, or configuration – those are part of Option 2.

Q: Can you help set up my Microsoft Office or Adobe software?
A: Yes, this is part of Option 2 service. You’ll need to provide your licence keys or subscription credentials, and we’ll install and activate the software for you. The installation and configuration work is included in the hourly rate (£85/hour), but the software licence itself is not – you must own or purchase your own licences.

Q: My computer is really old (5+ years). Is it worth installing Windows 11?
A: It depends on your hardware. We can check if your computer meets Windows 11 minimum requirements (TPM 2.0, UEFI firmware, compatible CPU, 4GB+ RAM, 64GB+ storage). If it doesn’t meet requirements, we can either install Windows 10 (knowing support ends in 2025) or recommend cost-effective hardware upgrades like SSD or RAM to improve performance.

Q: What if my hard drive is failing?
A: If your hard drive is showing signs of failure (clicking sounds, frequent errors, slow read/write speeds), we strongly recommend replacing it before installing Windows. We can supply and fit a new SSD (much faster than old HDDs) and install Windows on it. Pricing for SSD supply and installation is quoted separately based on capacity needed.

Q: Can you recover my data if Windows won’t boot?
A: Yes, in most cases. If your priority is data recovery rather than getting the computer working quickly, inform us when booking. We’ll attempt data recovery first, then proceed with fresh Windows installation. Data recovery is charged separately and depends on the condition of your storage drive.

Q: Do you offer same-day service for data migration?
A: Generally no. Same-day service is only available for Option 1 (clean install without data transfer). Data migration, application setup, and configuration require more time and testing to ensure everything works correctly. These services are typically completed within 1-2 working days, but we’ll provide a specific timeline when you discuss your requirements with us.

Q: What AI features can you set up?

A: We always perform preliminary diagnostics before any Windows installation to rule out hardware issues. Many symptoms that appear to be Windows problems (Blue Screens, crashes, freezing, boot failures) can actually be caused by failing storage drives, overheating, faulty RAM, battery issues, or GPU problems. If we identify hardware problems during diagnostics, we’ll inform you immediately and provide recommendations and quotes for necessary repairs. Installing Windows on failing hardware won’t solve the problem, so we ensure your hardware is functioning properly first.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept all major credit/debit cards, bank transfers, and cash payments at our London locations. Payment is required upon service completion before collection.
