Mechanically the iPad 8 is the iPad 7 with a faster chip, which is good news for this repair: the same 10.2-inch chassis, the same separate glass and LCD, the same route in. If the picture underneath is clean and touch still answers everywhere, the glass alone comes off and goes back.
We check the display first and say plainly if it has gone too - there is no point fitting glass over a dead panel. The Touch ID home button is paired to your logic board, so it is carried across from the original glass; a new button would leave you without Touch ID.
