Something is broken or worn out.

Software & Data

It powers on, but it will not behave.

Know the fault, but don’t see it listed? Describe it and we’ll price it from your description — free, no device needed. Not sure what’s wrong? That’s what the Diagnostics Service above is for.

Common Asus Repairs

What comes through the door on an Asus, and what each job actually involves.

Fixfactor Asus Laptop BGA Component Removal Motherboard Repair

Motherboard & board-level repair

An Asus board on our bench, mid-repair. Components replaced under a microscope instead of a quote for a whole new board.

ROG & TUF thermals

The most common gaming job. Strip, clean and repaste — with liquid metal where Asus used it, which is most Zephyrus models.

Screen replacement

From plain full-HD to 240Hz gaming panels and bonded OLED. Matched to what your model actually has.

Fixfactor Motherboard Component Removal For Repair With Hot Air

Charging ports & power

Asus uses barrel, USB-C and high-wattage gaming connectors, and all of them solder to the board. We replace the socket, not the board.

Battery replacement

For an Asus that dies at 40%, or a swollen cell bowing the base of a ZenBook.

Keyboard replacement

Dead or repeating keys, and per-key RGB decks on the gaming machines.

Fixfactor Laptops Motheboard Diagnostics with Fluke Multimeter

Diagnostics — when it will not turn on

No power, no picture, or shutting down under load. We find where it stops before anyone quotes for anything.

Storage, SSD & data

Bigger and faster drives, and recovery from the ones that have stopped reading.

Liquid damage

Full strip, ultrasonic clean and corrosion treatment. Read the yellow band below first.

Something else?

Fans, hinges, ScreenPad, casings, BIOS. Describe the fault and we will price it.

Which Asus do you have?

Pick the name on the lid. It tells us which parts your machine takes and, on the gaming models, how it is cooled.

Strix · Zephyrus · Flow — gaming

Thin machines with desktop-class heat. Several Zephyrus models are cooled with liquid metal rather than paste, which is a real reason to be fussy about who opens them.

What we see most on these

  • Throttling and shutdowns under load
  • Liquid-metal repaste — done wrong it shorts the board
  • Board-level GPU and power faults

Not listed? We still repair it — tell us what you have.

Gaming Thermals, Properly

Most gaming Asus machines that throttle, whine or shut down have not got a dying graphics chip. They have blocked heatsinks and compound that has dried out.

Measured, Not Guessed

Temperatures and clock speeds logged under load before we open anything, and again after.

Liquid Metal Where Asus Used It

Several ROG models ship with liquid metal. It has to go back the same way, masked properly — it is conductive, and on the board it is a short.

Full Strip and Clean

Heatsinks, fins and fans cleaned out. Years of dust is usually most of the problem.

When It Really Is the Board

GPU and power faults repaired at component level rather than quoting a new mainboard.

If a repaste will not fix it we say so at the diagnosis, not after taking the money for one.

Motherboard Repair, in Plain Terms

The work other shops send to us: the board repaired at component level rather than replaced.

It Will Not Turn On

Power rails followed with a meter and a thermal camera until we find where the voltage stops.

BGA Rework

Reballing and replacing the large chips on a rework station with a controlled heat profile.

Component-Level Replacement

Capacitors, MOSFETs, voltage regulators, blown fuses.

Charging Ports

Taken off and replaced, rather than replacing the board around them.

BIOS & Firmware

Corrupted firmware and boot-locked machines. Proof of ownership required.

Corrosion Repair

Where a spill has taken out one circuit and left the rest working.

We diagnose before we quote, and quote before we touch anything. If it is not worth doing, that answer is free.

Spilt Something on It? Do This Now

Gaming machines take the worst of this — the vents run straight over the board. What you do in the next hour matters more than anything we can do afterwards.

  1. 1

    Switch It Off Now

Hold the power button until it dies. A wet board survives being wet; it does not survive being powered while wet.

  2. 2

    Do Not Plug It In

Not to charge, not to test. Every check you run costs you a component.

  3. 3

    Bring It In Today

Upside down, lid open, charger out. Rice does nothing. Time is the only thing that helps.

The dangerous case is the one that dried out and still works — liquid keeps eating the board for weeks, so the failure turns up a month later. We strip it, clean the board ultrasonically, treat the corrosion and replace what has gone. If your files matter more than the laptop, tell us when you drop it off and we take those first.

What We Do, How, and Why Us

Every Asus fault, from a VivoBook screen to the work most shops will not take — boards repaired at component level, charging sockets re-soldered, and ROG machines stripped and repasted with the compound Asus actually used. One workshop in Wimbledon, and post-in from anywhere in the UK.

Diagnosis comes before a price, always. Microscopes, hot-air rework stations, a thermal camera to find the component running hot and a meter to follow the power rails until the voltage stops. On the gaming machines we log temperatures under load before and after, so the repair is something you can see rather than something you are told.

The alternative to a component-level repair is a whole new mainboard, and on a ROG or a ProArt that quote is close to what the laptop is worth. We find the part that failed and replace that one — and when it is not worth doing, you get told before you spend anything.

Good to Know

The questions we are asked most about Asus laptops repairs.

Not answered here? Ask us — we reply the same working day.

Asus quoted me for a whole motherboard. Can you do better?

Usually, yes, and it is most of what our bench does. A service centre replaces the board because that is their process; we find the component that failed and replace that one. Diagnosis first, quote before any work.

My ROG throttles and gets loud. Is the graphics card dying?

Usually not. It is nearly always blocked heatsinks and thermal compound that has dried out. We log temperatures and clock speeds under load before and after, so you can see whether it worked rather than take our word for it.

Do you repaste ROG models with liquid metal?

Yes, where Asus used it — most Zephyrus models. It is conductive, so it has to be masked and applied properly; on the board it is a short circuit. This is the part of a gaming repaste that gets machines killed elsewhere.

How long will it take?

A battery or keyboard can often be done while you wait if we have the part. Screens are ordered for your exact model, usually a couple of working days. Thermal work is same or next day; board-level work needs a few days.

Have you got the part for my model?

Batteries and keyboards for the current ranges are usually in stock or here next day. Screens are ordered against your exact model — most arrive in two to three working days, and high-refresh gaming and OLED panels take longer. For models Asus no longer supplies we use tested original parts and say so.

Will you use genuine Asus parts?

Parts matched to the original specification, from suppliers we have used for years. For a gaming screen that means the same panel and the same refresh rate — fitting a 60Hz panel to a 144Hz machine is something you notice every day afterwards.

We have Asus machines across the studio. Do you handle business repairs?

Yes. Batches, invoicing, collection and return, and one point of contact rather than a ticket per machine. Tell us how many and what is wrong and we will come back with a per-unit price.

We price this one individually — what it takes varies from device to device, so we look before we quote.

Tell us what the device does and we’ll price it from your description. No need to bring it in for this.

You’ll normally hear back the same working day. If you don’t, give us a ring on 020 8543 7088 — it means something has gone astray.

Thanks — we have your request. We’ll come back to you with a price, usually the same working day.
