Common Razer Blade Repairs
What comes through the door on a Blade, and what each job actually involves.
Motherboard & board-level repair
Processor, graphics and memory are soldered to one board on every Blade, so Razer’s answer is a new board at close to the price of the laptop. We find the circuit that failed and repair that instead.
Swollen battery
The most common Blade job by a distance. A cell that has grown lifts the trackpad and bows the base — stop using it, do not charge it, and bring it in.
Overheating & repaste
Desktop-class chips in an aluminium body barely thicker than a phone, cooled by a vapour chamber that only works while it is clean. Temperatures measured under load before and after.
Charging ports & power
USB-C and the barrel socket both solder straight to the board. We take the failed one off and fit a new one, rather than replacing the board around it.
Screen replacement
QHD+ high-refresh, 4K OLED and the dual-mode panel in the Blade 16. Expensive assemblies, matched exactly to your model and priced before you decide.
Keyboard & Chroma backlight
Dead keys, and per-key lighting that has gone out across a zone. On a Blade the keyboard is riveted into the top case, which is why most shops turn the job away.
Diagnostics — when it will not turn on
No power, no picture, or dying under load with the fans at full. We find where it stops before anyone quotes for anything.
Storage, SSD & data
Bigger and faster M.2 drives — one of the few things a Blade will still let you change — and recovery from the ones that have stopped reading.
Liquid damage
Full strip, ultrasonic clean and corrosion treatment. Read the yellow band below first.
Something else?
Hinges, dented and cracked lids, ports, fans, BIOS problems, Blades that Razer will no longer take back. Describe the fault and we will price it.
Which Razer do you have?
Tell us which Blade it is and roughly what year. Razer keeps the same lid across several very different machines, so the model is what tells us which panel, battery and board are inside.
The smallest Blade and the hottest for its size. Most of what we see on these is heat and the battery underneath it.
What we see most on these
- Swollen battery lifting the trackpad
- Throttling and fan noise under sustained load
- USB-C charging circuits — there is no spare socket to fall back on
The Blade most people own, and a long enough production run that identical-looking lids hide several different panels and boards.
What we see most on these
- Battery swelling — the classic failure on a machine of this age
- Panels from full-HD high-refresh to 4K OLED touch, each priced differently
- Charging port and power-circuit failures
The current flagships, and the largest boards Razer builds. Worth diagnosing properly: a board repair here is a fraction of what a replacement costs.
What we see most on these
- Board-level graphics and power-stage faults
- High-wattage charging that has stopped negotiating full power
- Display assemblies that cost more than a mid-range laptop
Thin, entirely soldered, and outside Razer support. Component-level repair is usually the only route left, and it is one we take.
What we see most on these
- USB-C ports that have stopped charging or passing data
- Batteries at end of life, glued into the base
- Keyboards riveted into the top case
The desktop-replacement Blade. Parts are scarce now, so component-level repair is what keeps these running rather than a replacement board.
What we see most on these
- Graphics and power-stage failures after years of heat
- Panels Razer no longer supplies
- Fans and vapour-chamber work

Motherboard Repair, in Plain Terms
On a Blade the processor, the graphics and the memory are all soldered to one board, so a fault anywhere on it is quoted as a whole new board — at close to the price of the laptop. We find the component that failed and replace that one. This is the work other shops send to us.
It Will Not Turn On
We follow the power rails with a meter and a thermal camera until we find where the voltage stops, and replace what is stopping it.
BGA Rework
Reballing and replacing the large chips — graphics, chipset — on a rework station with a controlled heat profile.
Component-Level Replacement
The small parts that actually fail in a machine this densely packed: capacitors, MOSFETs, voltage regulators, blown fuses.
Charging Circuits
USB-C and barrel sockets, and the charging circuit behind them, rebuilt on the board instead of replacing the board.
BIOS and Firmware
Corrupted firmware, failed updates, and machines that power on to nothing at all.
Corrosion Repair
Where a spill has taken out one circuit and left the rest working, that circuit can be rebuilt.
We diagnose before we quote, and quote before we touch anything. If the board is cracked through or corrosion has gone under the processor we will tell you it is not worth it — that answer is free.
Why a Blade repair is worth a proper diagnosis
Razer sells in the UK directly and through Currys and Amazon, at several times the price of a mainstream 15-inch laptop. That changes the arithmetic on everything that follows. A fault that would write off a cheap machine is worth an hour on the bench here, and a board repair that sounds expensive on its own is a small fraction of replacing a Blade. It also cuts the other way: we will not sell you a repair that costs more than the machine is worth to you, and on an older Blade Stealth we sometimes say exactly that.
Razer support in the UK, described honestly
There is no Razer repair counter in this country. In warranty, support is a courier RMA and it works. Out of warranty it becomes a quote for a replacement mainboard, and once a Blade is a few years old Razer stops supporting the model altogether — which is where most of the Blades on our bench come from. We are a workshop in Wimbledon you can walk into, or post to from anywhere in the UK, and the work happens at component level rather than by swapping the most expensive part in the machine.
What makes a Blade different to work on
A single milled aluminium unibody, a display bonded into the lid, a keyboard riveted into the top case, a battery glued to the base, and processor, graphics and memory all soldered to one board. There is nothing in it a parts shop can simply swap, and taking one apart without marking it is a skill in itself. That is the entire reason these machines reach us — the work needs a microscope, hot air, the right adhesives and someone who has had a Blade in pieces before.
Spilt Something on It? Do This Now
What you do in the next hour matters more than anything we can do afterwards.
-
1
Switch It Off Now
Hold the power button until it dies. A wet board survives being wet; it does not survive being powered while wet.
-
2
Do Not Plug It In
Not to charge, not to test. Every check you run costs you a component.
-
3
Bring It In Today
Upside down, lid open, charger out. Rice does nothing. Time is the only thing that helps.
The dangerous case is the one that dried out and still works — liquid keeps eating the board for weeks, so the failure turns up a month later. We strip it, clean the board ultrasonically, treat the corrosion and replace what has gone. If your files matter more than the laptop, tell us when you drop it off and we take those first.
Ways to Use Our Service
Two ways to get your Razer laptops repaired — bring it to Wimbledon, or post it from anywhere in the UK.
What We Do, How, and Why Us
Everything a Blade needs, including the jobs that get turned away elsewhere — swollen batteries lifted out and replaced, mainboards repaired at component level, charging ports re-soldered, bonded display assemblies matched to your exact model, and vapour chambers stripped and repasted so the machine stops throttling. One workshop in Wimbledon, and post-in from anywhere in the UK.
Diagnosis comes before a price, always. Microscopes, hot-air rework stations, a thermal camera to find the component running hot and a meter to follow the power rails until the voltage stops. A Blade is a single aluminium unibody with a bonded screen, a riveted keyboard and a battery glued to the base — it is opened the way the factory intended, and it goes back together the same way.
The alternative is a whole new mainboard, and on a Blade that quote is close to what the laptop is worth — when Razer will still supply one at all. We find the part that failed and replace that one. And when it is not worth doing, you get told before you spend anything, which on a machine at this price is the more useful answer.

What Customers Say
Every repair carries a warranty. These are unedited reviews left on Google and Trustpilot.
Good to Know
The questions we are asked most about Razer laptops repairs.
Not answered here? Ask us — we reply the same working day.
My Blade’s trackpad is lifting and the base is bowed. What is that?
A swollen battery, and it is the single most common Blade fault we see. Stop using the machine, do not charge it, and bring it in — a swollen cell pushes on the trackpad and the base, and left long enough it damages both. The replacement itself is a straightforward job on the bench; it is the waiting that causes the expensive version.
Razer quoted me for a whole new mainboard. Can you do better?
Usually, yes, and it is most of what our bench does. A service centre replaces the board because that is the process they work to; we find the component that failed and replace that one. Diagnosis comes first and the quote comes before any work, so you can compare the two figures before you decide.
Razer says my Blade is too old to support. Can you still repair it?
Yes. Support ending means Razer will not take the machine in, not that the machine cannot be repaired. The components on the board are still made and still fitted under a microscope; batteries and fans are still obtainable for most models. Bonded display assemblies for the oldest Blades are the real constraint, and if that is what your machine needs we will tell you honestly what is available and what it costs before you commit.
My Blade throttles and gets loud in games. Is the graphics chip failing?
Rarely. On a chassis this thin it is nearly always a cooling system that has filled with dust and thermal compound that has dried out, and a proper strip, clean and repaste costs a fraction of a board. We measure temperatures under load before and after, so you can see what changed. If it does turn out to be the board, we repair that at component level too.
How much is a Blade screen replacement?
It depends entirely on which panel your model has — Razer has fitted full-HD high-refresh, QHD+ 240Hz, 4K OLED touch and dual-mode Mini-LED behind lids that look the same from the outside. Send us the model number from the underside and you will have a fixed price the same day.
How long will it take?
A battery or a repaste is usually a day or two once the part is here. Display assemblies are ordered against your exact model, so those are booked when the panel arrives. Board-level work and liquid damage are investigative and need the machine on the bench for a few days; you leave it with us and we keep you updated rather than leaving you to chase.
Do you use genuine Razer parts?
We use parts matched to the original specification, from suppliers we have used for years. On a Blade that matters more than on most laptops: the panel, the battery and the top case are model-specific, and a substitute that physically fits is not the same part. Where a genuine Razer component is the only sensible option, we say so and price it that way.
Will opening it cause a problem with my warranty?
If the machine is still in warranty, take it to Razer first — we will tell you that rather than take the job. Under UK law a repair by a third party does not automatically void your rights, but a manufacturer can decline to cover something a third party has worked on, and there is no sense paying us for something Razer would do free. Once the cover has ended, none of that applies and the machine is simply yours to repair.
Will I lose my files?
A screen, a battery or a repaste does not touch your storage. Board-level work and liquid damage carry real risk, so tell us at drop-off if the files matter more than the laptop and we will recover those first. Back up anything irreplaceable before any repair, anywhere — that advice is not specific to us.
