Repairs

Something is broken or worn out.

Software & Data

It powers on, but it will not behave.

Know the fault, but don’t see it listed? Describe it and we’ll price it from your description — free, no device needed. Not sure what’s wrong? That’s what the Diagnostics Service above is for.

Common HP Repairs

What comes through the door on an HP, and what each job actually involves.

Fixfactor Preparing Motherboard For BGA GPU Replacement Task

Motherboard & board-level repair

Power circuits traced to the component that failed and replaced under a microscope, instead of a quote for a whole new board.

Screen replacement

HP fits everything from plain HD to OLED touch. Matched to the panel your model has, not the cheapest that fits.

Hinges & cracked palmrest

The classic HP failure: a stiffening hinge that lifts the plastic and eventually cracks the lid corner. Cheap early, expensive late.

Fixfactor Motherboard Component Removal For Repair With Hot Air

Charging ports & power

HP’s barrel and USB-C sockets both solder to the board. We replace the socket rather than the board it sits on.

Battery replacement

For an HP that shuts down with charge showing, or a swollen cell bowing the base.

Keyboard replacement

Dead or repeating keys, and the ones riveted into the top case on the thinner models.

Fixfactor Technician Diagnosing Laptop Motherboard Through Microscope Left Perspective

Diagnostics — when it will not turn on

No power, no picture, or a machine that shuts down under load. We find where it stops before anyone quotes.

Omen & Victus thermals

Strip, clean and repaste, with temperatures measured under load before and after.

BIOS passwords & firmware

Ex-corporate EliteBooks locked at boot, and firmware that will not complete. Proof of ownership required.

Something else?

Fans, casings, ports, docking damage, storage and data. Describe the fault and we will price it.

Which HP do you have?

Pick the name on the lid. HP changed all of them in 2025, so the name also tells us roughly how old the machine is.

OmniBook 3 · 5 · 7 · X · Ultra — 2024 onward

The current consumer HP. It replaced Pavilion, ENVY and Spectre in one go, and parts are still catalogued under the old names.

What we see most on these

  • Bonded touch and OLED displays
  • USB-C charging circuits
  • Machines still in warranty — we will say if HP should be doing it free

Not listed? We still repair it — tell us what you have.

What Actually Fails on an HP Board

HP quotes a replacement mainboard. We repair the circuit that failed — and on an HP it is usually one of a short list we see every week.

The Barrel Socket

HP kept the round charging jack long after everyone moved to USB-C, and on a Pavilion it works loose, cracks the solder and eventually lifts the pads underneath. Caught early it is a socket; left long enough it is a board repair around the socket. We do both.

Dead, With the Light On

The charge light works and nothing else does. That is a power rail stopping somewhere between the socket and the processor, and finding where is a meter, a thermal camera and the schematic — not a parts swap.

Hinge Damage That Reached the Board

The HP hinge failure does not stay in the lid. Once the screws pull through, the display cable takes the strain and the connector on the board goes with it. This is the repair people are told is a new laptop.

EliteBooks Locked at Boot

Supervisor passwords and asset locks left behind by whoever owned the machine before. We can usually clear them — with proof of ownership, always, and no exceptions.

Graphics and BGA Rework

Artefacts, no picture, or an Omen that shuts down under load. The large chips are replaced on a rework station with a controlled heat profile.

Corrosion Repair

Where a spill took out one circuit and left the rest working, that circuit can be rebuilt rather than the board replaced.

We diagnose before we quote, and quote before we touch anything. If the board is cracked through or corrosion has gone under the processor we say it is not worth it — that answer is free.

Spilt Something on It? Do This Now

What you do in the next hour matters more than anything we can do afterwards.

  1. 1

    Switch It Off Now

Hold the power button until it dies. A wet board survives being wet; it does not survive being powered while wet.

  2. 2

    Do Not Plug It In

Not to charge, not to test. Every check you run costs you a component.

  3. 3

    Bring It In Today

Upside down, lid open, charger out. Rice does nothing. Time is the only thing that helps.

The dangerous case is the one that dried out and still works — liquid keeps eating the board for weeks, so the failure turns up a month later. We strip it, clean the board ultrasonically, treat the corrosion and replace what has gone. If your files matter more than the laptop, tell us when you drop it off and we take those first.

What We Do, How, and Why Us

Every HP fault, from a Pavilion screen to the work most shops send away — boards repaired at component level, charging sockets re-soldered, hinges caught before they take the lid with them, and Omen machines stripped and repasted so they stop throttling. One workshop in Wimbledon, and post-in from anywhere in the UK.

Diagnosis comes before a price, always. Microscopes, hot-air rework stations, a thermal camera to find the component running hot and a meter to follow the power rails until the voltage stops. Parts are matched to the original specification and everything is tested before it goes back to you.

HP quotes a new mainboard because that is the process they work to. On a Spectre or an EliteBook that number is close to what the laptop is worth. We find the part that failed and replace that one — and when it is not worth doing, you get told before you spend anything.

Good to Know

The questions we are asked most about HP laptops repairs.

Not answered here? Ask us — we reply the same working day.

HP quoted me for a whole motherboard. Can you do better?

Usually, yes, and it is most of what our bench does. A service centre replaces the board because that is their process; we find the component that failed and replace that one. Diagnosis first, quote before any work, so you can compare the two figures.

My HP is a Pavilion but the new ones are called OmniBook. Do you still repair mine?

Yes. HP retired Pavilion, ENVY and Spectre in 2025 and replaced them with OmniBook 3, 5, 7, X and Ultra, but the machines did not change overnight and the parts are still catalogued under the old names. We repair both generations.

The lid is lifting away from the case near the hinge. Is that serious?

It is the most common HP failure and it gets worse quickly. The hinge stiffens, the screws pull through the plastic, and what starts as a hinge becomes a lid. Bring it in early and it is a small job.

How long will it take?

A battery or keyboard can often be done while you wait if we have the part. Screens are ordered for your exact model, usually a couple of working days. Board-level work and liquid damage need the machine on the bench for a few days.

Have you got the part for my model?

Batteries and keyboards for the current ranges are usually in stock or here next day. Screens are ordered against your exact model — most arrive in two to three working days, and OLED and touch assemblies take longer. For models HP no longer supplies we use tested original parts and tell you which one your repair is getting.

I bought an ex-office EliteBook and it asks for a password at boot.

That is a BIOS supervisor password set by whoever owned it before. We can often clear it, but only with proof that the machine is yours — a receipt or the disposal paperwork. No proof, no work.

We have HPs across the office. Do you handle business repairs?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Batches, invoicing, collection and return, and one point of contact rather than a ticket per machine. Tell us how many and what is wrong and we will come back with a per-unit price.

We price this one individually — what it takes varies from device to device, so we look before we quote.

Thanks — we have your request. We’ll come back to you with a price, usually the same working day.
