The iPad 9 keeps the separate glass and LCD of the 10.2-inch generation, so a cracked front over a working display does not need a full assembly. What it has that the earlier ones do not is a True Tone display and a 12MP ultra-wide front camera, and both get checked once the new glass is on.
The testing comes first, though: brightness, colour, no lines, touch in every zone. If the LCD is damaged as well we say so rather than fitting glass over it. The Touch ID home button is paired to your logic board and moves across from the old glass.
