Apple MacBook Air 13-inch Keyboard Replacement Service
Professional keyboard replacement service for Apple MacBook Air 13-inch models released between 2018-2020 (model numbers A1932, A2179, A2337). Sticky keys, non-responsive keys, or damaged keyboard? Our keyboard replacement service restores full typing functionality with high-quality keyboard assemblies that match Apple specifications.
Signs You Need Keyboard Replacement:
- Sticky or repeating keys (double typing)
- Non-responsive keys or dead zones
- Keys physically damaged or missing
- Keyboard backlight not working
- Liquid damage affecting keyboard functionality
- Worn keycaps or faded key labels
- Spacebar or Enter key failure
Keyboard Replacement Process: We replace the complete keyboard assembly including all keys and integrated backlight system. This is a highly time-intensive repair requiring removal of almost all internal components including the logic board, and unscrewing numerous screws to access the keyboard layer. Your trackpad, battery, speakers, and other components remain untouched. For some models or specific situations (such as bent chassis), a top case replacement may be necessary – contact us for details about your specific model.
Same-Day Service Available: Same-day repairs can be completed in 3-4 hours if we prepare the keyboard assembly in advance for your appointment. Call us or book an appointment so we can order the correct keyboard layout for you – parts typically arrive next day. Contact us to arrange same-day service.
Important: Confirm Your Keyboard Layout: MacBook Air keyboards come in different regional layouts (UK, US, FR, etc.). When booking your repair, please confirm your preferred keyboard layout so we can order the correct assembly for you. If you’re uncertain about your current layout, we can identify it during diagnostics.
High-Quality Keyboard Assemblies: We use the highest quality 13″ replacement keyboard assemblies available. Compatible with all MacBook Air 13″ models (A1932, A2179, A2337). Each assembly includes complete keyboard with integrated backlight system – pre-tested for key response and backlight functionality before installation. Expect the same typing experience as the original keyboard.
Professional Installation Process: Our keyboard replacement includes:
- Complete device disassembly and component removal
- Logic board removal and careful handling
- Removal of display assembly for access
- Careful extraction of old keyboard assembly
- Installation of new keyboard with proper alignment
- Verification of keyboard backlight zones and individual key response
- Trackpad functionality verification (remains unchanged)
- Complete reassembly with precision torque specifications
Post-Repair Testing: We verify all keyboard keys respond correctly (no sticky or dead keys), keyboard backlight functions properly across all brightness levels, trackpad responds accurately (unchanged from original), all macOS keyboard shortcuts and special functions operate as expected. All keyboard replacements are performed at our London repair centre.
Liquid Damage Considerations: If your keyboard failure resulted from liquid spill, the logic board may have sustained corrosion damage. We perform diagnostics before keyboard replacement to identify any additional damage. If logic board cleaning or component repair is needed, we’ll provide an accurate quote and get your approval before proceeding. You’re never charged for work you don’t authorize.
6-12 Month Warranty: All keyboard replacements include a 6-12 month warranty (depending on supplier warranty on parts) covering the replacement keyboard assembly (keys and backlight) and installation workmanship.
What to Expect: Your 13-inch MacBook Air will have fully responsive keyboard with consistent key travel, proper backlight illumination across all keys, and the same typing feel as the original keyboard. Your trackpad, battery, and speakers remain unchanged.
Common Questions:
- How long does the repair take? Keyboard replacement takes 3-4 hours when keyboard assemblies are available. Same-day service possible if we have your preferred layout in stock or can prepare the assembly before your visit.
- Will my data be safe? Keyboard replacement requires logic board removal but doesn’t directly affect your SSD or data. We never intentionally delete customer data. However, we cannot guarantee data safety during hardware repairs. By agreeing to the service, you accept responsibility for your data. We always recommend backing up important files before any repair using Time Machine or iCloud.
- Do you use original Apple keyboards? Our supplier describes these parts as high-quality Apple replacements. While we don’t claim these are original Apple parts, the quality, key feel, and functionality match Apple specifications exactly. You’ll receive the same typing experience and build quality as the factory keyboard.
- Can you replace just one key? In very specific cases – if a keycap is missing or the plastic mechanism is damaged but the metal clip and rubber dome underneath remain intact – we can attempt repair. However, this isn’t a recommended practice and often the underlying keyboard assembly has additional issues. In most cases, complete keyboard replacement is the proper solution to ensure reliable long-term function and proper backlight operation.
- What about top case replacement? For some models or specific situations (such as bent chassis), a top case replacement may be necessary instead of keyboard-only replacement. This is a more comprehensive repair at a different price point. Contact us directly to discuss which option is suitable for your specific MacBook model and condition.
- What keyboard layout will I receive? We’ll match your current keyboard layout. As we’re based in the UK, we assume UK layout unless you specify otherwise. Some layouts may be unavailable or cost more, and certain layouts require top case replacement due to different key shapes. If your MacBook was purchased in the UK, there shouldn’t be any issues.
- Will my battery, trackpad, and speakers be affected? No. Keyboard replacement only affects the keyboard and backlight. Your original battery, trackpad, speakers, and other components remain unchanged.
- Do you need access to my device for testing? To properly test your MacBook after repair, we need to boot into macOS to verify all keyboard keys, backlight functionality, and system operation. We can use a guest account if available, or you can provide a user password. If you prefer not to provide access, we can only perform basic power-on testing – but full functionality testing is recommended to ensure your repair is 100% successful.
Diagnostics Available: Not sure if you need keyboard replacement? Bring your 13-inch MacBook Air to one of our London locations for diagnostics. Sometimes keyboard problems stem from software issues, NVRAM/SMC settings, macOS bugs, or isolated logic board faults that don’t require keyboard replacement. We’ll give you an honest assessment before proceeding with any repair.
Important: Additional Damage Disclosure
If your MacBook Air 13-inch has any additional damage beyond the keyboard issue, please mention it when booking your repair:
- Existing front glass damage (cracks, display issues)
- Battery problems (swelling, poor battery life, Service Battery warning)
- Software issues
- Liquid damage or exposure to moisture
- Any other visible damage to the device
If we discover liquid damage and corrosion during repair, liquid damage cleaning may be required at additional cost. Swollen battery or serious damage to casing may also require additional attention. We’ll always inform you and get your approval before proceeding with any additional work. If you choose not to proceed with the repair due to additional damage or costs, a standard diagnostic service fee will apply.
