The mini 6 was the first iPad mini to use USB-C rather than Lightning, and the connector is soldered directly to the logic board. When it fails it is usually because the shell has taken a knock - the iPad was picked up by the cable, or put down while plugged in - rather than because anything has worn out.
We test the port and the charging circuit first: the two give the same symptom and only one of them is cured by a new connector. The replacement itself is microsoldering work, done here under the microscope rather than sent away.
