A 5,000 mAh cell in a 2025 phone, so honest wear is rarely the cause here - what we usually find is a cell that has swelled after heat or a knock. The signs are a percentage that drops in steps rather than smoothly, shutdowns well above zero, or a back that no longer sits flat. That last one is the urgent case: a swelling cell is a safety matter, not an inconvenience, and it should not go in a pocket or on charge.
The (3a) opens from the back rather than through the screen, which makes this a cleaner job than it is on most phones - the glass panel comes off, the cell comes out on its pull tabs, and the back is reseated on fresh adhesive. Charging over USB-C and the Glyph lighting are both checked before it goes back to you.
