Case Study: Pixel 2 XL Screen Replaced and Posted Back the Same Day

Device: Google Pixel 2 XL
Symptom: front glass shattered across the bottom of the display; screen still working
Diagnosis: glass-only damage - display, frame and internals intact
Repair: full screen assembly replacement
Turnaround: received Monday morning by post, repaired and posted back before 4pm the same day

This one came in through our mail-in service: the customer booked a Pixel 2 XL screen repair online, chose priority handling and posted the phone up to us. It arrived on Monday morning with the front glass broken across the bottom - but the display underneath was still alive and touch worked everywhere.

What we found

Visual inspection put the damage at the outer glass only: no marks on the frame, no damage to the back, image and touch fully functional. Before any repair we test the whole device - buttons, speakers, cameras - so faults that existed before the repair are documented rather than discovered afterwards. One snag: the phone arrived passcode-locked with no code on the order, so we had to phone the customer before testing could start. It is the single most common delay in mail-in repairs, and the reason we now ask for a passcode or a guest profile at booking.

The repair

Everything tested fine, so we moved to the screen. Gentle heat to soften the adhesive, a slow lift to avoid stressing the frame, then a full clean-up of old glue and glass fragments. On a bonded display like this the honest repair is a complete assembly, not a glass-only refurbish - we connected the new screen, confirmed image and touch before sealing, then fitted it with fresh adhesive and let it cure for 45 minutes.

The outcome

Final clean, final test, repacked and at the post office before 4pm - the customer was without their phone for a total of two postal days plus one working day. Same-day turnaround on an arrival like this depends on one thing above all: the part being on the shelf when the phone lands on the bench.
