Service Details

The 11-inch M2 Air charges over USB-C, and a USB-C socket usually fails mechanically rather than electrically: the tongue inside gets bent by a cable that was leaned on, and after that the plug never quite seats. A useful clue is a port that still charges but has stopped carrying data - that is one half of the connector gone, not the battery.

The socket is soldered to the logic board, so it comes off with hot air and a new one goes on under the microscope. Before any of that we establish whether the port or the charging circuit is at fault; on a machine this new both are worth ruling out properly.

Charging faults have four possible culprits - port, cable, battery or board.About Charging Faults
