The original 12.9-inch Pro holds a 38.5 watt-hour battery under a very large sheet of glued glass, and the size is the difficulty: a panel that big has to be heated evenly and lifted evenly or it flexes and cracks. Nearly every one we see is still on its first battery, which puts it well past the point where capacity is the real question.
Old cell and adhesive out, new cell in, device resealed, charging verified over the Lightning port before handover. If the glass has started to lift at a corner, that is the battery pushing on it - stop charging and bring it in.
