Case Study: Surface Pro 6 - Liquid Damage, a Working Tablet and 360 GB of Data

Device: Microsoft Surface Pro 6
Symptom: liquid damage
Diagnosis: corrosion across the board and a few damaged components
Repair: deep board clean and component repair, new battery and screen; data copied to an external drive
Turnaround: about two and a half weeks, returned by post

Liquid had spread across much of this Surface. The owner needed two things back: the tablet and the files on it.

What We Found

Corrosion covered large areas of the board, including around the power circuits and the heat pipe, and a few components were damaged.

The Repair

A deep clean of the motherboard and the component repair brought the Surface back. It worked with a new battery and a new screen.

The Outcome

The Surface worked, and we copied 360 GB of the owner’s data onto an external drive. Both went back by post.
