The 2017 12.9-inch Pro carries a 41 watt-hour cell and a 120Hz ProMotion display that asks a good deal of it. When a battery this size ages, the complaint is usually not a shorter day but a shutdown at twenty per cent the moment something demanding runs - the cell can no longer hold voltage under load.
We lift the glued display, replace the cell and its adhesive, reseal the device, and check charging and the 120Hz refresh before handover. Still Lightning on this generation, so the port gets tested at the same time.
