A 12.9-inch laminated panel is a large sheet of glued glass, and the whole repair turns on the lift: even heat across the full area, even pressure, no flex. Get that wrong and the new panel goes back onto a frame that is no longer flat, which shows itself later as a lifting edge.
This generation runs ProMotion, so the replacement has to hold 120Hz as well as show a picture, and the Touch ID home button is paired to your logic board and carried across from the original glass. Touch, brightness, refresh rate and Apple Pencil input are all checked before handover.
