Still Lightning on this generation, and still soldered to the logic board. What we look for first is whether the connector is at fault at all: a tired 41 watt-hour battery and a failed charging circuit both present as “it will not charge”, and neither improves with a new port.
If the port is the problem it comes off with hot air and a new one goes on under the microscope, in house. The large display has to be lifted to get there, so the panel and its 120Hz ProMotion refresh are both re-checked before the iPad goes back to you.
