Software & Data
It powers on, but it will not behave.
Assessment first: we tell you what can be recovered from your MacBook, and what the recovery costs, before any recovery work starts. Dead MacBooks, liquid damage, failed or soldered storage. On Retina models the SSD is soldered to the logic board, so recovery is board-level work. The data comes first, whether or not the MacBook itself is worth repairing.
Good to know: If nothing can be recovered, there is nothing further to pay. The assessment fee is not refunded – it covers the work of finding out.

Which iMac 24 is yours?
The repair depends on which generation you have, and they look identical from the outside. Click the Apple menu › About This Mac – the model number is on the same line as the year. If it will not switch on, it is printed in small type on the underside.

What we see most on the 24-inch iMac
It is a laptop board behind a 4.5K display, which is why the faults look more like a MacBook than an old iMac. Cracked and pressure-marked panels come in most often – the glass is bonded to the LCD, so it is one assembly. After that: dead on arrival with no chime and no fan, which is usually the internal power supply or the board; USB-C ports that have stopped charging or passing data; and displays with backlight but no picture.
What cannot be upgraded, whatever you have been told
Memory is inside the M-series chip and storage is soldered to the logic board. There is no RAM slot and no removable SSD in any 24-inch iMac, so no shop can upgrade either after purchase – if somebody has quoted you for it, they are quoting for a machine they have not opened. External storage over Thunderbolt is the only real route, and on these machines it is fast enough to work from.
If the Mac is dead and your files are on it
Soldered storage changes what recovery means. There is no drive to remove and read elsewhere – the files sit on chips wired into the board, so getting them back means repairing the board far enough to boot or to read the chips directly. That is work we do here, but it is not guaranteed and it is not cheap. We assess first and tell you plainly whether it is realistic before you commit to anything.

Can the screen be replaced on its own?
Yes, but not the glass on its own – the panel and the glass are bonded into one assembly on every 24-inch iMac, so a cracked screen means a new display unit. We fit it and re-seal the machine with the correct adhesive, so it closes the way it did from the factory.
Can you add memory or a bigger SSD?
No. Memory is part of the M-series chip and the SSD is soldered to the board. Neither is upgradeable on any 24-inch iMac, by us or by anyone else. Thunderbolt external storage is the only way to add space.
It will not switch on at all. Is it worth repairing?
Usually worth diagnosing, at least. Power supply failures and board-level faults on these are repairable at component level here rather than by swapping the whole logic board, which is what makes the difference between a sensible bill and a write-off. We diagnose first and quote before any work starts.
How long will it take?
Bring it in and leave it with us. Display assemblies are ordered per machine, so there is no same-day option on a desktop – most screen and board jobs run to a few working days and we keep you updated while it is here.
Do I need to bring the keyboard and mouse?
No, just the iMac and its power lead. If the fault only shows up with something plugged in, bring that too – it saves us reproducing it blind.
