How Much Does Phone Screen Repair Cost in the UK?

Phone screen repair cost in the UK depends mainly on the exact model, display technology and replacement-part option. An older LCD phone, a current OLED flagship and a foldable device require very different parts and procedures. A useful quote should therefore name the model and explain what is included, not simply advertise one “screen repair” price.

Fixfactor keeps current prices on model-specific service pages where a standard repair is available. If the device or damage needs inspection, we provide an individual quote before work begins.

What changes the cost of a phone screen repair?

  • Exact make and model: similarly named phones can use different displays, connectors and frames.
  • Display technology: LCD, OLED, curved and foldable assemblies have different part costs and fitting requirements.
  • Part option: genuine service parts, refurbished-original displays and compatible aftermarket screens are not equivalent.
  • Extent of the damage: a bent frame, damaged sensor cable, torn connector or impact to the motherboard adds work beyond the visible crack.
  • Software configuration: some models require a manufacturer procedure or calibration to complete the repair and retain the expected parts information or features.
  • Part availability: prices and sensible quality options can change as a model ages.

The cheapest quote may use a different screen grade or exclude work that another quote includes. Ask enough questions to compare like with like.

Is it only the glass, or the complete display?

A phone screen is normally a bonded assembly: cover glass, touch layer and LCD or OLED panel. If the image is distorted, lines are visible, black areas are spreading or touch has failed, the complete display assembly usually needs attention.

Glass-only refurbishment can be suitable in some cases when the image and touch layer still work correctly. It is a specialist process, not simply fitting loose glass over the crack, and it is not available or economical for every model. A quote should make clear whether it covers glass refurbishment or a complete replacement assembly.

How do screen options differ?

Part descriptions are not standardised across the repair industry, so ask what a label means in practical terms. Important differences can include:

  • brightness and visibility outdoors;
  • colour accuracy and white balance;
  • touch response and edge sensitivity;
  • panel thickness, fit and durability;
  • power consumption;
  • support for functions such as True Tone or fingerprint recognition;
  • what appears in the device’s parts and service history.

For iPhones, Apple documents how display choice and the repair process may affect Multi-Touch, brightness, colour, True Tone and parts information in its guide to iPhone displays. Other manufacturers have their own service-part and calibration arrangements.

What should a screen repair quote include?

Before booking, confirm:

  1. the exact phone model and screen option;
  2. whether parts, labour and VAT are included;
  3. whether the frame will be checked for distortion;
  4. which features will be tested after fitting;
  5. the repair warranty and expected turnaround;
  6. that no additional work will be completed without approval.

If the quote is given before inspection, ask what could legitimately change it. Damage hidden under the screen is possible, but the repairer should explain it and obtain approval rather than silently adding work.

Does a black screen always need a screen replacement?

No. A phone can appear to have a dead screen when the display has failed but the device is still running. Call the phone, listen for alerts or connect it to a known-good charger without repeatedly forcing it to restart. However, a black screen can also result from a flat or failed battery, liquid damage, a charging fault or motherboard damage.

Lines, ink-like black patches, flickering and touch failure after impact strongly suggest display damage. A phone that is completely unresponsive needs broader diagnosis before an expensive panel is ordered.

Will screen repair erase the phone?

A routine display replacement does not normally erase user data. Back up the phone first if the screen still permits it. If the display is unusable and the data is important, tell the repairer before work begins. The priority may be to fit a test screen and confirm access before dealing with cosmetic damage.

Do not keep entering a passcode through a screen that is producing unintended touches. Repeated incorrect entries can trigger security delays or, depending on the settings, risk data loss.

Is it worth repairing the screen?

A screen repair can be good value when the phone is otherwise reliable, still receives the software support you need and would cost substantially more to replace with an equivalent model. It can also be worthwhile when recovering access to unbacked-up data is the main goal.

Consider replacement when the screen is only one of several major faults—for example, a bent chassis, failing battery, damaged cameras and board problems—or when the repaired phone would no longer meet your needs. Compare the complete repair with a genuinely equivalent replacement, including storage capacity and condition.

Frequently asked questions

Can a cracked phone screen get worse?

Yes. Cracks can spread, loose glass can damage fingers, and pressure or moisture can reach the display underneath. Stop using the phone if it becomes hot, the battery or screen starts lifting, or touch input becomes erratic.

How long does a screen repair take?

Turnaround depends on the model, part availability, adhesive curing and whether the frame or internal components are damaged. Confirm the realistic time for the exact device rather than relying on a generic promise.

Is water resistance restored after a screen repair?

Fresh adhesive and careful assembly help protect the device, but an independently opened phone should not automatically be represented as restored to its original manufacturer-tested water-resistance rating.
