The hard drive is not repairable. It consists of moving plates and header. Those plate have millions of sectors that stores the data. The header is responsible for reading those sectors and translating them into what you see on your iMacs screen. If only single of those sectors are faulty, your hard drive is considered as faulty because this is just a beginning of more serious problems.
